Health authorities in Nowshera have intensified preventive measures after eight more chikungunya cases emerged in Ziarat Kaka Sahib.
The latest cases have increased the confirmed infections in Spin Kanai union council to 14. Authorities have now expanded surveillance into neighboring areas.
District Health Officer Dr. Akram Shah said officials would establish a buffer zone between affected and unaffected union councils.
Teams will conduct indoor residual spraying, active case finding and larvicide spraying. They will also inspect homes and water containers for mosquito breeding sites.
Health Teams Begin Wider Surveillance
Health and tehsil municipal administration teams will conduct house-to-house visits to identify suspected cases. Officials will distribute paracetamol and oral rehydration solution among residents.
Patients requiring additional treatment will be referred to Category-D hospitals in Ziarat Kaka Sahib, Manki and Akora Khattak.
Authorities have also ordered teams to clear clogged sewage lines that could create mosquito breeding sites. Lady health workers and lady health visitors will support household surveillance and larval-control activities.
Preventive operations will extend to Manai, Chashmai, Shaidu and parts of Akora Khattak.
Meanwhile, authorities have launched awareness campaigns about chikungunya symptoms and mosquito prevention. Isolation wards have also been established.
Samples from suspected patients are being sent to the Public Health Reference Laboratory at Khyber Medical University for confirmation.
Hospitals have received essential medicines, while a district control room is coordinating outbreak information.
Authorities said they are closely monitoring the situation. Officials are strengthening early detection and mosquito-control measures to prevent further transmission.
