Pakistan Test captain Babar Azam has promised a stronger and more competitive team ahead of the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka. The captain expressed confidence in Pakistan’s new combination of experienced players and emerging cricket talent.
Speaking at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Sunday, November 8, 2026, Babar said the team was determined to overcome recent setbacks and deliver improved performances in the upcoming series.
The captain revealed that Pakistan decided to introduce younger players following the disappointing tour of England. Around seven to eight members of the current squad represent a new generation of cricketers.
Babar emphasized that these players have gained valuable first-class experience and deserve opportunities at the international level. He believes their inclusion could strengthen Pakistan’s long-term Test cricket prospects.
The skipper also acknowledged his recent struggles with the bat. He admitted that his performances had fallen below expectations but confirmed that he was working closely with coaches to regain form.
Babar said he regularly reviews his performances and considers motivating younger teammates an important responsibility.
Addressing questions about former Pakistan batter Mohammad Yousuf, Babar described him as a legendary cricketer. He revealed that he had contacted Yousuf through social media and would welcome his guidance.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Cricket Board has added Aamir Jamal, Ali Shabbir, Muhammad Tayyab Arif and Saqib Khan to the Test squad.
The opening Test begins on November 9 in Rawalpindi, while the second match will take place in Lahore from November 17.
The series provides Pakistan with an opportunity to rebuild confidence and improve its World Test Championship campaign.
