A high-level US delegation, led by Senior Bureau Official (SBO) for the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs Eric Meyer, is set to travel to Islamabad from April 8-10, according to a statement from the US State Department issued on Saturday.
The primary focus of this visit will be to further US interests in the critical minerals sector during the Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum, which is scheduled to begin in Islamabad on Tuesday.
The delegation’s engagement will primarily focus on expanding business opportunities for American companies in Pakistan, with an emphasis on fostering closer economic relations between the two countries.
As global attention increasingly turns toward securing critical minerals for technologies like electric vehicles and renewable energy, both the US and Pakistan see significant potential in strengthening this sector.
Throughout the two-day forum, the US delegation will hold meetings with senior Pakistani officials to discuss how both nations can work together to enhance investment, trade, and business collaboration in the critical minerals industry.
The visit underscores the growing importance of Pakistan as a partner in this area, especially given the country’s vast untapped mineral resources, which include valuable materials like lithium, cobalt, and copper.
In addition to economic discussions, Meyer and the delegation will also use the opportunity to engage with Pakistani officials on matters of security and counterterrorism.
