Bushra Bibi, the former First Lady of Pakistan, has filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court requesting improved conditions during her incarceration at Adiala Jail.
In her appeal, she emphasized her previous status and residence at the Prime Minister’s House, arguing that she is entitled to better facilities as per the Jail Rules of 1978. Despite having submitted a formal request to the jail authorities, she claims that the Superintendent of Adiala Jail has not responded.
Bushra Bibi has asked the court to direct the federal government and the Chief Commissioner of Islamabad to ensure the implementation of the prescribed jail rules. She referenced the case of her husband, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), who has already been granted improved conditions at the same prison.
Currently serving a seven-year sentence in connection with a £190 million corruption case, she is urging the court to ensure that all relevant authorities fulfill their legal duties regarding the provision of appropriate prison facilities.
