Something Rotten! star remembered for acclaimed stage career and television appearances
NEW YORK: American actor Josh Grisetti, known for his work in musical theatre and his appearance in the fifth season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, died on Friday at the age of 44, according to his close friend and former co-star Rob McClure.
McClure announced the death on Instagram on Sunday, describing Grisetti’s passing as a devastating loss and offering condolences to the actor’s wife and family. The two performers appeared together in the Broadway musical Something Rotten!, one of Grisetti’s most widely recognised stage productions.
Grisetti’s agent, Rick Ferrari, also confirmed the news and said he was deeply shocked by the actor’s death.
Career built on musical theatre
Born in Washington in December 1981, Grisetti studied drama at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts before completing further musical theatre training at the Boston Conservatory.
He began his professional career in regional theatre and later appeared in major productions including Diner, It Shoulda Been You and Something Rotten!. His performances earned praise for their comic timing, vocal ability and emotional range.
Moreover, his work in Something Rotten! brought him wider recognition and contributed to two Drama Desk Award nominations during his career.
Television and film work expanded legacy
Alongside his stage career, Grisetti appeared in television and film. He featured in the sitcom The Knights of Prosperity in 2007 and later took roles in productions including The Immigrant and The Namesake.
He also appeared in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, introducing his work to a broader international audience.
