Kimi Antonelli continued his remarkable form by claiming pole position for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday. The young Mercedes driver will start Sunday’s race from the front after producing another outstanding qualifying performance.
Earlier in the day, Antonelli also won the sprint race. Therefore, he completed a perfect Saturday by securing his fifth pole position in just nine races this season.
The 19-year-old Italian delivered the fastest lap in qualifying with a time of 1 minute 28.111 seconds. As a result, he finished 0.175 seconds ahead of Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc.
Leclerc will line up alongside Antonelli on the front row for Sunday’s British Grand Prix.
Ferrari and Mercedes Fill the Front Positions
Ferrari enjoyed another strong qualifying session as Lewis Hamilton secured third place. The British driver will start the race from the second row.
Meanwhile, George Russell qualified fourth for Mercedes. Russell heads into the British Grand Prix with confidence after winning the previous race in Austria.
However, he remains 43 points behind championship leader Antonelli in the standings.
The qualifying result placed both Ferrari and Mercedes drivers among the top four, setting up an exciting contest at Silverstone.
Hadjar Impresses While Verstappen Misses the Top Six
