Suspect Taken into Custody as Police Continue Investigation
LAHORE: Police have arrested a young boy in connection with the suicide attempt case involving a female student of the University of Lahore. The arrest was made as part of an ongoing investigation into the incident, which occurred earlier this week, officials confirmed on Wednesday.
The suspect has been identified as Ahmed Bilal. He was arrested from Narang Mandi in Sheikhupura district. Police said Narang Mandi is also the hometown of the female student. The arrest was carried out after investigators reviewed call records and other preliminary evidence linked to the case.
Police officials stated that Ahmed Bilal is being questioned to determine his connection to the incident. Authorities clarified that the investigation is still in progress and further action will be taken based on collected evidence.
Marriage Dispute Emerges During Investigation
According to police sources, the female student wanted to marry Ahmed Bilal of her own choice. The proposed marriage was reportedly opposed by her family. Police said the studentโs parents wanted her to continue her education and were not in favor of the marriage at this stage.
Investigators said the student became upset after her family refused to give consent. Police are examining whether this disagreement played a role in the events that followed. Statements from the studentโs family members have been formally recorded.
Police further revealed that the student made her last phone call to Ahmed Bilal shortly before the incident. After the call, she reportedly deleted his contact number from her phone. Investigators are reviewing mobile phone data to verify the sequence of events.
Authorities confirmed that the studentโs family is cooperating with the investigation. Police said all aspects of the case are being examined to establish the facts.
Incident Timeline and Studentโs Medical Condition
Police investigations revealed that the student arrived at the University of Lahore campus at 7:58 am on the day of the incident. She did not attend her scheduled class after arriving at the university.
According to investigators, the student remained engaged in a phone call for approximately 27 minutes. At around 8:30 am, she fell from the upper floor of a university building. Police said she sustained serious injuries as a result of the fall.
The student was immediately shifted to a hospital for medical treatment. Police sources confirmed that she remains under treatment and has not yet regained consciousness. Doctors are continuing to monitor her condition.
Investigators also stated that the student had deleted her last call record before the incident. Her brothers informed police that they had purchased a new mobile phone for her a day earlier because her previous phone was not working properly.
This incident is the second such case reported at the University of Lahore within the past 15 days. Last month, a male student, identified as Owais Sultan, died after a similar incident at the same institution.
Police said investigations are ongoing and further developments will be shared as the case progresses.
