Pakistan has carried out intelligence-based Pakistan Afghan border strikes, neutralising nearly 70 militants, according to the State Minister for Interior Talal Chaudhry. The operations targeted militant hideouts along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border following recent suicide attacks inside Pakistan.
The government stated that security forces struck seven identified camps and facilities linked to Fitna al-Khawarij, its affiliates, and Daesh-Khorasan. These actions came in response to escalating security threats.
Targeted Intelligence-Based Operations
Officials confirmed that the strikes focused on specific terrorist camps across the border region. As a result, nearly 70 militants were killed during the coordinated operation. Authorities believe most of those killed were Pakistani nationals.
Talal Chaudhry stated that Afghanistan has long exported terrorism into Pakistan. Therefore, he stressed that Pakistan will take all necessary steps to safeguard its citizens.
He explained that security forces continue extensive operations within Pakistan. So far, around 70,000 intelligence-based operations have taken place nationwide. Several suspects have also been arrested during these actions.
Consequently, the cross-border strikes formed part of a broader counterterrorism strategy.
Reference to Doha Commitments
The state minister recalled the commitments made under the 2020 Doha agreement. At that time, the Afghan Taliban assured the international community that Afghan soil would not be used for terrorism.
However, Chaudhry stated that the interim Afghan government has failed to fulfil that pledge. As a result, Pakistan faces continued cross-border threats.
He emphasized that Pakistan remains a responsible state despite rising tensions. Moreover, the country continues to support Afghan refugees and provide economic assistance to Afghanistan.
Regional Security Concerns
The Pakistan Afghan border strikes reflect growing regional instability. On one hand, Islamabad seeks improved relations with neighboring countries. On the other hand, officials insist that national security remains non-negotiable.
