Baldoni Describes Two-Year Dispute as Traumatic
Blake Lively is reportedly angered by Justin Baldoniโs first public video since their high-profile legal dispute ended in a settlement.
Baldoni appeared alongside his wife, Emily Baldoni, in a nearly five-minute Instagram video published on July 8, 2026. The actor and director reflected on the emotional impact of the case without directly naming Lively.
He described the previous two years as traumatic for his family. Baldoni said he remained largely silent during the legal proceedings because he did not want to increase the surrounding noise.
He also thanked relatives, friends and supporters who defended his family during the dispute. Emily said their gratitude towards supporters did not erase the injustice and pain they believed they had experienced.
A report citing an unnamed source claimed Lively was โabsolutely furiousโ after seeing the video. The source alleged that the actress viewed the message as an attempt to reshape public opinion after the legal case had concluded.
Neither Lively nor her representatives had publicly responded to Baldoniโs latest comments at the time of reporting. The claim about her private reaction therefore remains unconfirmed.
Legal Conflict Began With Complaint in December 2024
The dispute emerged from the production and promotion of the 2024 romantic drama It Ends With Us. Baldoni directed the film and starred alongside Lively.
Lively filed an initial complaint in December 2024. She accused Baldoni and others of sexual harassment, workplace misconduct and retaliation. Baldoni denied the allegations.
Baldoni later filed a $400 million lawsuit against Lively, her husband Ryan Reynolds and other parties. His claims included defamation, civil extortion and invasion of privacy. A federal judge dismissed the major claims in June 2025.
Most of Livelyโs claims were also removed before the planned trial. Three claims involving breach of contract, retaliation and alleged assistance with retaliation remained unresolved.
The parties reached a confidential settlement on May 4, 2026. The agreement was announced only two weeks before the trial was expected to begin. The settlement prevented the remaining allegations from being tested before a jury.
Legal Fees Keep Financial Dispute Alive
Although the main case has ended, the financial consequences are still receiving attention.
A federal judge ruled in June that Lively could recover legal fees connected with defending herself against Baldoniโs unsuccessful claims. However, the judge rejected her request for additional damages.
Lively later requested more than $8 million in attorneysโ fees. The amount reportedly covered legal work performed during the prolonged dispute. Baldoni was given an opportunity to challenge the requested figure.
The controversy attracted unusual attention because It Ends With Us was a major commercial success despite the conflict surrounding its production. The film earned more than $350 million worldwide.
The story itself examines domestic abuse and difficult relationships. However, the off-screen legal battle eventually became nearly as widely discussed as the movie.
Baldoni and his wife indicated that they may share more about their experience in the future. For now, they said their focus remains on recovery, faith and family life.
The video has reopened public discussion about the dispute. However, the reported claim that Lively reacted angrily has not been publicly confirmed by the actress or her legal team.
