ISLAMABAD: PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari chaired a meeting on Friday to assess the presidential reference aimed at revisiting the 1979 contentious death sentence imposed on the partyโs founder, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.
Central and provincial leaders, along with legal experts from the Peoples Lawyers Forum (PLF), attended the meeting, and PLF officials briefed Mr. Bhutto-Zardari on the presidential reference.
The meeting included participants like Farooq H. Naik, Shahadat Awan, Syed Nayyar Hussain Bokhari, Faisal Karim Kundi, Raza Rabbani, and others.

The long-pending presidential reference, filed by former president Asif Ali Zardari in 2011, seeking the courtโs opinion on revisiting the conviction, has been scheduled for a hearing before a nine-member larger bench of the Supreme Court on Tuesday.
Asif Ali Zardari moved the court under Article 186 (1) and (2) of the Constitution, allowing the president to refer questions of public importance to the Supreme Court for its opinion.
In a separate meeting, a delegation of civil society representatives discussed domestic and foreign affairs with PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari at Zardari House. The civil society members provided suggestions and opinions on addressing the countryโs challenges.
Meanwhile, PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari emphasized the historical sacrifices made by the PPP and expressed the party’s commitment to serving the people of Pakistan with renewed zeal.
He highlighted the need for digitalization in key departments for transparency and effective governance and called for strengthening and implementing anti-harassment laws to empower women in the workforce.
