President Asif Ali Zardari and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari are currently in Vienna, where discussions over Bilawal’s reported engagement and marriage have reportedly taken place with a prominent European family.
A PPP source with direct knowledge of the matter told Geo News that Zardari and Bilawal have met members of the prospective bride’s family three times since arriving in Austria.
Bilawal Reportedly Set to Meet Family in UK
According to the source, President Zardari and Bilawal are expected to travel from Austria to the United Kingdom. They may spend around 10 days in London and other parts of the country.
Members of the prospective bride’s family are also expected to join them during their UK stay.
The source said Bilawal and the prospective bride have known each other for several years and share many mutual friends.
The reported wedding could take place in Vienna later this year, although no final date has been announced.
Reports Link Prospective Bride to Austrian Royal Family
Speculation surrounding Bilawal’s possible marriage has linked the prospective bride to the House of Habsburg-Lorraine, Austria’s former imperial family.
Some reports have described her as a descendant of Karl I, the last reigning Emperor of Austria. However, neither the Bhutto-Zardari family nor the PPP has officially confirmed these reports.
The Presidency confirmed on August 27 that President Zardari had travelled abroad on a private visit but did not disclose details about the trip.
Reports have also suggested that Zardari visited Liechtenstein during his European trip for discussions involving the family.
PPP Leader Denies Marriage Reports
The reports have generated considerable discussion in Pakistani and international media, with speculation increasing after Zardari’s private trip to Austria.
However, Karachi Mayor and senior PPP leader Murtaza Wahab has rejected reports that Bilawal is getting married. He described the claims circulating on social media and in the media as incorrect.
The source also said that several senior PPP figures and people close to the Bhutto-Zardari family were unaware of the reported marriage discussions until recently.
Bilawal and his family have not made any formal announcement regarding an engagement or marriage.
Bilawal, an Oxford University graduate, has frequently travelled to the UK for political and private engagements. His sisters are also expected to join the family during the upcoming UK visit.
Sanam Bhutto, Bilawal’s aunt and the only surviving child of former prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, is already in London.
For now, the reported engagement remains unconfirmed, with no official announcement from Bilawal Bhutto, President Zardari or the PPP.
