The U.S. State Department has released a travel advisory for India and Pakistan, cautioning American citizens about potential security risks and urging heightened vigilance.
The advisory warns of a credible threat of terrorist activity in India, particularly in crowded public areas such as tourist attractions, shopping centers, and marketplaces. Specific concern was raised over the regions of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, where attacks could occur without warning.
Eastern and central India were also flagged as high-risk zones due to ongoing terrorism. The advisory further cited incidents of crime, violence, and sexual assault in popular tourist destinations across the country.
For Pakistan, the advisory highlights tensions near the India-Pakistan border and the Line of Control (LoC), areas marked by significant military presence and the potential for sudden escalation.
U.S. citizens are advised to avoid non-essential travel to sensitive regions in both countries and remain alert to their surroundings at all times.
