The Babusar Highway has been completely closed after high-level flooding at Zero Point, according to the National Highway Authority (NHA). Authorities suspended traffic until further notice because of safety concerns.
The NHA advised commuters and tourists to use the Karakoram Highway as an alternative route. However, that highway also became inaccessible following a separate incident.
Officials urged travellers to avoid unnecessary journeys while restoration work continues. Meanwhile, local authorities are monitoring the situation closely.
Flooding And Truck Accident Disrupt Traffic
The Karakoram Highway was closed after a goods truck overturned near Shang Nala, also known as Gunner Farm. Consequently, officials halted all types of traffic on the route.
The NHA immediately stopped traffic at the Gunner Farm check post. Additionally, authorities suspended the entry of more vehicles to prevent congestion.
Officials said the closures remain in place until conditions become safe for travel.
Rescue Teams Begin Clearance Operation
District administration officials and rescue teams reached the accident site with heavy machinery. Workers are removing the overturned truck and clearing the highway.
The NHA said efforts are underway to restore traffic as quickly as possible. However, authorities have not announced a reopening timeline.
Meanwhile, commuters have been advised to follow official travel advisories and cooperate with local administration until both highways reopen.
