New developments have emerged in Karachi’s Azaan kidnapping case after arrested suspects made key disclosures during the investigation.
According to investigators, the alleged mastermind, Ehtesham, was a close friend of the victim’s father for 22 years. However, he allegedly planned the kidnapping to demand ransom.
Mastermind Admits Planning Kidnapping
Investigators said Ehtesham visited the area on a motorcycle four times before carrying out the abduction. Moreover, he allegedly confessed that financial greed motivated the crime.
The suspect claimed he had known the victim’s father since childhood. He also told investigators that he believed his friend could afford to pay a ransom because of his construction business.
According to investigators, Ehtesham said the child recognized him. Therefore, he allegedly signalled to Azaan, who willingly approached him.
He further claimed that he took the child to Jamshed Road. Afterwards, he allegedly handed Azaan over to his brother-in-law, Abdul Wahab.
Investigation Continues
According to investigators, Abdul Wahab transported the child by motorcycle to Gharo. There, he allegedly handed Azaan over to another suspect, Iftikhar.
Ehtesham also admitted that he planned the operation and made the ransom demand using a foreign phone number, investigators said.
Meanwhile, Abdul Wahab reportedly confirmed receiving the child from Ehtesham before taking him to Gharo.
Investigators identified Iftikhar as an alleged facilitator in the case. However, he claimed the child stayed at his house for two to three days without his knowledge that he had been abducted.
He told investigators that he only learned about the kidnapping after watching television news reports. Police continue investigating the case to verify the suspects’ statements and determine the involvement of all individuals.
