A late-night shooting injured at least eight people, including four children, in New York City’s Coney Island neighborhood during the Independence Day holiday weekend. The New York City Police Department confirmed the details on Sunday following a violent outbreak on a Brooklyn street.
Officers responded to urgent reports of gunfire at approximately 10:37 p.m. on West 31st Street. Upon arrival, emergency responders discovered a chaotic scene and immediately began treating the wounded. The gunfire struck two men, two women, and four young children aged 14, 12, 7, and 6.
Emergency medical services transported all eight victims to local hospitals for immediate treatment. Authorities confirmed that seven of the victims remain in stable condition. However, a 21-year-old woman sustained severe injuries and remains in critical condition as doctors fight to save her life.
Detectives recovered a firearm at the scene of the crime during their initial sweep. Investigators are currently interviewing witnesses and reviewing local surveillance footage to identify suspects. The New York City Police Department has not made any arrests yet, and the shooter remains at large.
Violence surged across several major cities during the holiday weekend, prompting increased community concern. Local leaders condemn the act and urge anyone with information regarding the Coney Island shooting to contact the police hotline immediately.
