Approximately 18 to 20 independent candidates who secured National Assembly seats have reportedly expressed their willingness to support the formation of a coalition government led by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
According to sources cited by The News, the independent MNAs-elect, primarily from south Punjab, Balochistan, and Rawalpindi, are expected to join the PMLN-PPP coalition government. The PPP and PML-N have reportedly approached several victorious independent candidates, and it is anticipated that these MNAs may formally join the coalition government in the National Assembly.
Insiders suggest that the number of independent members aligning with the alliance could potentially increase. The PPP is said to be exploring various options and concentrating efforts on securing the support of independent candidates. Following the elections, there has been an uptick in communication between political parties and independent candidates for the purpose of government formation.
In response to these reports, senior leaders from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) dismissed the claims as baseless. They labeled it as disinformation, asserting that any National Assembly member backed by the PTI would not support another party. The PTI leaders emphasized the perceived consequences faced by former chief ministers Pervez Khattak, Mehmood Khan, and other leaders who switched allegiances.
