A distressing incident occurred in the Korangi area of Karachi on Friday as at least 15 women sustained injuries when an elevator in a factory collapsed. The women were descending to the ground floor when the elevator malfunctioned, causing it to fall from a height of 10ft.
While the injuries were reported as minor, the affected women were promptly taken to the hospital for medical treatment. Subsequent updates indicated that the victims were being discharged after receiving necessary medical attention.
Concerningly, family members of the injured women revealed that they were notified about the incident via telephone. Upon reaching the site, there were no company officials present to provide information regarding the incident or the well-being of the women involved.
Rajab Ali, an official from the company, shared that the elevator, carrying 16 women along with the operator, lost balance during its descent from the eighth to the ground floor. The subsequent fall was attributed to a technical fault in the elevator, according to Ali.
All injured individuals were transferred to a private hospital, where three are undergoing treatment for injuries, while the others have been discharged.

The incident highlights the importance of regular maintenance and safety checks for such essential infrastructure to prevent accidents and ensure the well-being of individuals using such facilities.
