Asif Kirmani, a former political secretary to ex-Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, has announced his resignation from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). In a statement, Kirmani expressed his dissatisfaction with the partyโs leadership and its current political direction.
Kirmani, who served as Nawaz Sharifโs close advisor during his 2013-2017 tenure, stated that he has been distanced from the partyโs political activities for some time. He criticized the PML-N governmentโs handling of the economy, highlighting the rising cost of living and inflation that is burdening the people. He also accused the party leadership of celebrating their โineffective governanceโ while the public suffers.
In a direct message to Nawaz Sharif, Asif Kirmani stated, โNawaz Sharif Sahib! All is not well.โ While he did not reveal any plans to join another political party, he promised a detailed explanation of his decision in the near future.
Kirmaniโs resignation follows a recent trend of high-profile PML-N leaders leaving the party. Several prominent figures, including Abbas Khan Afridi, Muhammad Zubair, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, and Miftah Ismail, have parted ways with the party in recent months, citing disagreements with the leadershipโs approach and decisions.
These departures are attributed to a combination of factors, including dissatisfaction with the partyโs performance, allegations of rigging in the recent elections, and a growing perception that the partyโs leadership is no longer relevant in Pakistani politics.
Kirmani’s resignation and the broader wave of departures signal significant internal strife within the PML-N, raising questions about the party’s future direction and its ability to address the concerns of its members and supporters.
