Musical Concert in Swat Valley Faces Cancellation Amidst Local Protests

Local residents’ protests have led to the cancellation of a musical concert in Kalam Valley, Swat. The scheduled event, set to take place at a local hotel from October 6 to 8, aimed to showcase renowned Pashto singers.

Zahid, the organizer, informed that this was more than just a musical concert; it also included various games in the program. Additionally, the concert received approval and guidance from local elders.

However, opposition to the event gained momentum on social media, with local people denouncing it as contrary to Pashtun traditions.

Earlier in the day, in a separate incident, local elders and residents halted a cricket match involving two women’s teams in the Charbagh area of Swat District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

In the past, numerous performances and musical events in Swat have stirred controversy, resulting in bans and public backlash. Nevertheless, a segment of the community vehemently supports singing and dancing as integral cultural activities in the region.
