Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem has been named in Forbes’ prestigious “30 Under 30 Asia” list, a recognition that underscores his remarkable achievements and growing influence in the world of sports.
The news emerged on Monday, celebrating the 28-year-old javelin thrower who made history with his groundbreaking performance at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Forbes’ entertainment and sports category in the annual list aims to highlight young talent across Asia who are making significant contributions to their respective fields. According to the magazine, these individuals represent “the next generation of talent — on court and the screen.”
Arshad Nadeem’s inclusion is attributed primarily to his extraordinary Olympic gold medal win, where he not only stood atop the podium but also shattered records with a mammoth 92.97-meter throw.
This Olympic victory marked a turning point in Pakistan’s sports history. It was the country’s first-ever individual Olympic gold and the first Olympic medal of any kind for Pakistan in more than three decades. Forbes described Nadeem’s Olympic performance as a “stunning show,” cementing his legacy as one of the greatest athletes in the nation’s history.
In the wake of his Olympic success, Nadeem received more than Rs153 million in cash awards from the provincial governments of Punjab and Sindh, along with several honors and recognitions from various government bodies and private institutions.
In a symbolic tribute, a road in Islamabad was renamed after him, and Pakistan Post issued a commemorative stamp on the occasion of Independence Day to celebrate his historic feat.
Nadeem has continued to build on this momentum. Just last month, he claimed another gold medal at the Asian Athletics Championships with an impressive 86.40-meter throw — a performance that brought Pakistan its first gold at the regional event in over 50 years.
Although he narrowly missed the championship’s record of 86.72 meters, his dominance in the sport remains unchallenged.
Having already earned gold at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and a silver medal at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest, Arshad Nadeem now sets his sights on the World Athletics Championships in September 2025 — the only major international competition where he has yet to clinch a gold medal. He will soon travel to England for intensive training in preparation for the event.
