The Accountability Court in Rawalpindi has issued non-bailable arrest warrants for property magnate Malik Riaz and his son, Ali Riaz Malik, in the Takht Pari case after their failure to appear in court. The court has directed their arrest and production at the next hearing.
The case revolves around allegations of the illegal occupation of government land for the development of a housing society in and around Takht Pari. A total of 17 individuals, including former Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi and Malik Riaz, have been named in the reference.
Court Grants One-Day Exemption for Elahi
The hearing, presided over by Judge Muhammad Akmal Khan, saw Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi’s lawyer present a medical certificate on his behalf. The court granted Elahi a one-day exemption from attending the proceedings due to health reasons.
Meanwhile, the legal representatives of four out of the 10 suspects named in the reference appeared before the court, while all 14 suspects were ordered to submit bail bonds of Rs. 500,000 each.
Rs. 335 Billion Corruption Allegations
The reference, filed last month, accuses the individuals of causing a loss of Rs. 335 billion to the national treasury by illegally transferring thousands of kanals of government land in Takht Pari to Bahria Town. This land was subsequently used for the development of phases seven and eight of the housing society.
The court has adjourned the proceedings until April 16, directing authorities to ensure the presence of all suspects at the next hearing.
