An army major embraced martyrdom during an intelligence-based operation in North Waziristan’s Razmak area, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Saturday. Security forces also killed five terrorists during the operation.
According to the ISPR, the slain militants belonged to Fitna al Khawarij. Security personnel also recovered weapons and ammunition from the terrorists.
The military said the militants had participated in attacks against security forces and civilians. Meanwhile, troops continued operations to clear the area.
Major Ihsan Elahi Embraces Martyrdom
The ISPR identified the martyred officer as Major Hafiz Ihsan Elahi, 34, from Mianwali district. Officials said he led his troops from the front throughout the operation.
The military described him as a courageous officer who fought bravely before embracing martyrdom. Consequently, the armed forces paid tribute to his sacrifice and leadership.
Security Forces Continue Counterterrorism Operations
The ISPR said sanitisation operations remain underway to eliminate any remaining terrorists. Officials added that counterterrorism efforts under the Azm-i-Istehkam strategy will continue nationwide.
The military reaffirmed its commitment to eliminating terrorism and safeguarding the country. Additionally, it said such sacrifices strengthen the resolve of Pakistan’s security forces.
Pakistan has witnessed increased militant attacks since the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan ended its ceasefire in November 2022. Earlier this week, security forces also killed 32 terrorists during operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
