RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir has emphasized the need for “stable hands and a healing touch” to move away from the politics of anarchy and polarization, congratulating the nation on the successful conduct of general elections. He noted that such politics doesn’t befit a progressive country of 250 million people.
In a statement, the military’s media wing quoted him, stating that elections are not a zero-sum game but an exercise to determine the mandate of the people. General Munir urged the political leadership to rise above self-interests, emphasizing the importance of unity and cooperation in governing and serving the people for a functional and purposeful democracy.
Reiterating the trust placed in the Constitution by the people, he urged political parties to reciprocate with political maturity and unity. Looking ahead, he expressed hope that the elections bring political and economic stability, becoming a harbinger of peace and prosperity for Pakistan.

The army chief also congratulated the caretaker government, the Election Commission of Pakistan, political parties, and all winning candidates for the successful conduct of polls.
Additionally, the Election Commission of Pakistan has issued results for 250 NA constituencies, revealing that independent candidates are leading the polls. The statement acknowledges the Pakistani people’s commitment to democracy and the rule of law through free and unhindered participation in voting. It appreciates law-enforcement agencies for creating a safe environment despite overwhelming odds, and it highlights the significant roles played by national media, civil society, civil administration, and the judiciary in the largest electoral exercise in national history. The army chief envisions a unified government representing Pakistan’s diverse polity and pluralism, emphasizing that elections and democracy are means to serve the people, not ends in themselves.
