Federal Government Approves Punjabโs Request
The federal government has approved Punjabโs request to deploy Pakistan Army and Rangers personnel across the province for Muharram security.
The deployment is part of special security arrangements for Ashura processions and religious gatherings.
According to officials, Army and Rangers personnel are expected to reach all districts by the evening of 8 Muharram.
The forces will support Punjab Police during the sensitive days of 9th and 10th Muharram.
A joint flag march involving police and army personnel will also be held in Lahore as part of security preparations.
137 Companies Sought for 39 Districts
The Punjab Home Department had sent a formal request to the Ministry of Interior for security assistance.
The request was made on the recommendations of the Provincial Police Officer and Inspector General of Police Punjab.
According to a Home Department spokesperson, Punjab has sought 137 companies of Army and Rangers personnel across 39 districts.
These include 61 companies of the Pakistan Army and 76 companies of Rangers.
Officials said the deployment is aimed at ensuring foolproof security during Muharram processions and gatherings.
Forces to Support Law and Order Measures
The notification stated that the deployment was requested due to the prevailing security environment.
Authorities said additional forces are needed to counter potential threats from terrorists and miscreants.
Army and Rangers personnel will coordinate with district administrations.
They will report to the respective Deputy Commissioners in their assigned districts.
The deployed forces will assist police in maintaining peace, controlling sensitive routes and protecting public gatherings.
Officials said all available resources will be used to ensure the peaceful observance of Ashura across Punjab.
