Eight suspects allegedly hold family hostage before escaping with millions of rupees worth of valuables
KARACHI: A major robbery was reported in Karachi’s Gadap City, where a group of armed men allegedly stormed a house, held its occupants hostage and escaped with cash, gold jewellery and other valuables worth millions of rupees.
According to initial reports, eight armed suspects arrived at the scene on four motorcycles before entering the house through the rear entrance. Investigators said the robbers overpowered the family members and kept them confined while carrying out the robbery.
The suspects allegedly looted approximately 150 tolas of gold jewellery, Rs2.5 million in cash and several other valuable household items before fleeing the area.
Authorities said one member of the family suffered injuries after reportedly resisting the robbers during the incident. The injured person was allegedly assaulted by the suspects before they completed the robbery.
Police launch investigation
Law enforcement officials said the robbers managed to escape before police teams reached the location. Officers later secured the crime scene and began collecting evidence to determine the sequence of events.
Investigators are also examining whether the suspects had prior knowledge of the valuables kept inside the house or conducted surveillance before carrying out the robbery.
Police are expected to review CCTV footage from nearby streets and businesses to identify the motorcycles used by the suspects and trace their escape route.
Search operation underway
Authorities have launched a search operation to locate and arrest those involved in the robbery. Police are also interviewing the affected family and nearby residents in an effort to gather additional information that could assist the investigation.
The incident has renewed concerns about residential security in Karachi, particularly in areas where organised criminal gangs have increasingly targeted homes believed to contain large amounts of cash and jewellery.
Police have urged residents to promptly report suspicious activity and assured the public that efforts are underway to identify the suspects and recover the stolen valuables.
