Armed men have abducted 20 police recruits travelling along the Quetta-Karachi Highway in Balochistan’s Mastung district, officials confirmed on Saturday. The recruits were undergoing training at the Kalat Police Training Centre and were travelling home for the weekend when gunmen intercepted their vehicle.
According to officials, the attackers arrived on motorcycles and carried automatic weapons. They took the recruits away in the passenger van to an undisclosed location, while releasing the driver and three other passengers travelling with them.
Security Forces Launch Search Operation
Police officials confirmed that the abducted personnel belonged to the Levies Force, which has since merged with the police. The recruits were reportedly from the Rakhshan division of Balochistan.
Following the incident, security forces launched a search operation in nearby mountainous areas to locate the missing personnel. However, authorities have not yet disclosed their whereabouts or confirmed whether investigators have established contact with the abductors.
Moreover, no group has claimed responsibility for the kidnapping so far. Officials are continuing their efforts to recover the recruits and determine the circumstances surrounding the attack.
Recent Abductions Raise Security Concerns
The latest incident comes amid a series of kidnappings targeting government personnel in Balochistan. A day earlier, Rakhshan Division Commissioner Asad Ullah Kakar was abducted in Kharan district, raising further concerns about the security situation in the province.
In a separate incident, Kharan Deputy Commissioner Munir Ahmed Soomro regained his freedom on October 3 after spending nearly two weeks in captivity. Local tribal elders reportedly negotiated with the armed men to secure his release.
Additionally, three excise officials were kidnapped following an attack on a checkpoint in Chagai district on July 21.
Authorities continue to face security challenges across several districts of Balochistan. The latest abduction has prompted an urgent response as security personnel work to trace the missing recruits and establish responsibility for the incident.
