Renowned Pakistani writer, satirist, and television icon Anwar Maqsood has strongly denied recent rumors circulating on social media and some news platforms suggesting that he had been arrested. The legendary playwright, known for his bold commentary and sharp wit, addressed the matter during an exclusive conversation with Samaa TV.
Dismissing the claims as entirely baseless, Maqsood clarified, “Everybody was saying that Anwar Maqsood has been arrested. However, there is no truth to it. I have not been arrested.” He emphasized that his work has always been independent and free of influence from any political or institutional forces. “I have never written for the government or any institution. Whatever I have written is for the public,” he stated with clarity.
The rumors of his arrest surfaced amidst the staging of his latest theatrical production House Arrest, which is currently being performed in Lahore. While some speculated that the politically nuanced nature of the play may have triggered official backlash, the production team has also stepped forward to dispel such notions.
Producer Wajiha, while speaking about the play, explained that House Arrest is not politically motivated. “The drama has nothing to do with politics. We have performed it in multiple cities before bringing it to Lahore,” she said. The play, like many of Maqsood’s past works, blends satire, humor, and social commentary, offering reflections on everyday life rather than targeting specific political entities.
