KARACHI: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) at Central Jail Karachi extended the interim bail of actor Muneeb Butt in a kidnapping for ransom case registered by Airport Police.
The court issued the order during a hearing in which the actor appeared in person before the judge. Following the proceedings, the court allowed the continuation of interim bail while the investigation and legal process move forward.
According to case records, Airport Police registered the case against Muneeb Butt on April 23 following a complaint filed by Mutal Khan. The FIR alleges that the actor, along with other suspects, was involved in the kidnapping of the complainant.
Investigators claim that the accused allegedly transferred cryptocurrency from the complainant’s account while he was being unlawfully detained. The FIR states that the transfer was carried out during the period of alleged captivity.
According to the prosecution’s version, the complainant was later released in Karachi’s Korangi area after the cryptocurrency transaction had been completed.
The allegations form part of an ongoing investigation. However, no court has yet determined the guilt or innocence of any accused person in the case.
During the hearing, legal proceedings focused on the status of the actor’s interim bail. After reviewing the matter, the court decided to extend the relief, allowing Muneeb Butt to remain on bail until the next stage of the proceedings.
The case continues to attract public attention due to the involvement of a well-known television actor and the allegations relating to cryptocurrency transactions. Investigators are expected to continue collecting evidence and recording statements as part of the inquiry.
Meanwhile, legal experts note that interim bail does not amount to an acquittal or dismissal of charges. Instead, it provides temporary legal protection to an accused person while the court considers the matter.
Further hearings are expected as the investigation progresses and both sides present their arguments before the court.
