Pakistan’s Quantum Data Technologies (QTECH) has signed a cooperation agreement with China’s Great Power Energy & Technology to explore local assembly of lithium-based batteries, marking another step towards expanding the country’s energy storage industry.
The agreement aims to support the production and assembly of advanced battery energy storage systems for residential, industrial and data centre applications. The development also reflects QTECH’s strategy to diversify its business operations beyond information technology services.
The company, formerly known as Chakwal Spinning Mills Limited, disclosed the agreement in a notice submitted to the Pakistan Stock Exchange on Wednesday, October 14.
Partnership Targets Local Battery Assembly
Under the proposed cooperation, QTECH and Great Power will explore opportunities to assemble lithium-based batteries locally. These systems can help households and businesses store electricity for later use, potentially improving energy management and reliability.
Great Power specialises in lithium battery technology and energy storage solutions. Its collaboration with a Pakistani company could help introduce advanced battery technologies to the local market while supporting the development of domestic assembly capabilities.
However, the agreement focuses on exploring cooperation, and further details about the project’s investment, production capacity and implementation timeline have not yet been confirmed.
Growing Interest in Pakistan’s Energy Storage Market
The proposed venture comes as Pakistan’s energy market experiences growing interest in battery storage solutions. Rising electricity costs and the wider adoption of solar power have increased demand for systems that allow consumers to store surplus electricity and use it when needed.
Battery storage can also support businesses and data centres that require reliable power supplies. Local assembly could eventually help improve access to these technologies, depending on production costs, market demand and the project’s progress.
QTECH’s agreement follows other Pakistan-China initiatives aimed at developing lithium-ion battery manufacturing and energy storage capabilities in Pakistan. These partnerships indicate increasing commercial interest in the country’s emerging battery market.
