A long-anticipated leadership transfer has begun at the energy-to-retail giant Reliance by passing the presidency of its telecommunications subsidiary to Mukesh Ambani’s son, one of India’s wealthiest men.
Earlier this year, Ambani stated his children will play a big part in the company and that Reliance was “amid executing a historic leadership transfer.”
Ambani’s three children, all of whom we expect to play a larger role in India’s largest business, are discussed below.
Akash Ambani, a 30-year-old heir to the Ambani family fortune, Mukesh Ambani’s eldest son, graduated from Brown University in 2014, he joined the executive team of the group’s telecom subsidiary, Reliance Jio, as soon as he could.
Jio is now India’s largest telecom provider, with over 400 million members, thanks to his efforts as a non-executive director on the company’s strategy and expansion goals.
Reliance said on Tuesday that they have promoted him to the position of chairman of the telecom division under his leadership.
According to the firm, Akash has been actively engaged in product development and staff involvement in order to foster a “young and lively culture”.
Playing a significant part in the management, he manages a Reliance-owned franchise in the Indian Premier League, the wealthiest cricket league in existence. He is an ardent cricketer as well.
The Meta Platforms investment in Reliance Jio Platforms, a Reliance subsidiary, will be worth $5.7 billion in 2020, thanks in part to Akash’s work there.
Earlier this year, he tied the knot with Shloka, the daughter of a prominent diamond trader.
30 years old, Isha Ambani, Akash’s twin sister, is already in charge of the company’s retail, e-commerce, and luxury initiatives. To compete with online retailers like Amazon, Reliance is also India’s largest bricks-and-mortar shop.
Through the Ajio e-commerce app and relationships with leading international brands, she is also helping to increase Reliance’s fashion footprint.
She holds a business management degree from Stanford. “Heiress on Duty” was the title given to her by Fortune last year as the 21st most powerful lady in India.
Reuters reports she is actively involved in the design of a new Reliance mall, including the careful positioning of competing luxury brands next to one other.
For her big-money husband, Isha Piramal married Anand in 2018. Anand’s father is an entrepreneur who has made his fortune in the real estate and pharmaceutical industries.
Anant Ambani, a 27-year-old tycoon, is the youngest son of Mukesh Ambani. He manages investment areas in the new energy sector.
Founder and Chairman of Reliance Industries, Mukesh Ambani, has resigned from his position as director of the company’s telecommunications division.
Narendra Modi’s goal of increasing India’s renewable energy capacity is being pursued by Reliance. Renewable energy sources, such as solar and green hydrogen, are an important part of Reliance’s long-term growth strategy.
Along with Akash and Isha, Anant has already addressed crowds at corporate events.
In 2017, Anant received his Bachelor’s degree from Brown University.
