The Azad Jammu and Kashmir Election Commission has announced the schedule for elections to eight reserved seats in the AJK Legislative Assembly.
According to the schedule, candidates will submit nomination papers on August 20, while authorities will publish the final candidate list on August 23.
Meanwhile, polling for the eight seats will take place inside the AJK Assembly on August 24.
The reserved seats include five positions for women and three for technocrats.
The announcement follows the recently completed AJK general elections, where the PML-N emerged as the largest party with 25 seats.
The PPP secured 11 seats, while the party alleged rigging during the elections.
PML-N Leads AJK Election Results
During the first phase, PML-N won nine of 13 constituencies in Mirpur Division, while PPP secured four seats.
In the second phase, PML-N won 15 seats across eight Muzaffarabad constituencies and refugee seats, while PPP secured six.
After results from two constituencies in the third phase, PML-N’s tally reached 25 seats and PPP’s total stood at 11.
PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari criticised the election process and warned that the federal government’s “countdown” had begun.
However, PML-N President Nawaz Sharif urged political rivals to avoid turning disagreements into hostility.
Nawaz said political competition remained normal but warned that growing tensions in Azad Kashmir concerned everyone.
He attributed the situation to failures by previous governments to fulfil their responsibilities.
The reserved-seat elections will now determine the remaining composition of the AJK Legislative Assembly.
