Air Punjab Prepares for Takeoff
The upcoming launch of Air Punjab marks a major development in Pakistan’s aviation sector. A detailed progress report has been submitted to the provincial government outlining the new airline’s financial structure, operational roadmap, and launch timeline. The report positions Air Punjab as a significant player in improving regional and international air connectivity from Punjab.
Project Cost and Fleet Details
According to the report, the total project cost is expected to range between Rs. 12 billion and Rs. 15 billion. The plan includes leasing five advanced Airbus A320 aircraft to begin operations. Each aircraft will reportedly cost $375,000 per month, bringing the annual leasing expense to around Rs. 6.3 billion.
The airline’s management aims to ensure efficiency by adopting a public-private partnership model. This approach will balance public oversight with private-sector expertise, enabling long-term sustainability and effective management practices.
Salaries and Workforce Development
Pilot salaries are proposed to range from Rs. 1.5 million to Rs. 2.5 million per month, which reflects the government’s intent to attract experienced professionals from across the aviation industry. The project is also expected to generate thousands of employment opportunities, boosting Punjab’s economy and supporting workforce development in the aviation sector.
Expected Routes and Ticket Fares
In its initial phase, Air Punjab plans to launch direct flights connecting Lahore to three major destinations — Dubai, Jeddah, and Karachi. The proposed ticket fares include Rs. 15,000 for domestic routes, Rs. 40,000 for Dubai, and Rs. 50,000 for Jeddah.
These competitive prices are designed to make international travel more affordable for passengers while maintaining service quality and reliability. The Lahore-to-Dubai and Lahore-to-Jeddah routes are expected to attract strong demand, particularly among business travelers and overseas Pakistanis.
Launch Timeline and Broader Impact
Air Punjab is scheduled to take off by September next year. The airline’s introduction is anticipated to significantly improve Punjab’s connectivity and strengthen the province’s aviation infrastructure. By providing better access to key domestic and international destinations, the project aims to enhance trade, tourism, and investment opportunities.
The initiative aligns with the government’s broader vision to expand Pakistan’s transport network and promote digital, logistical, and economic growth. With strong financial planning and a clear operational model, Air Punjab could soon become a cornerstone of Pakistan’s expanding aviation landscape.
