ANP Leader Questions Who Controls the Governance System
Awami National Party President Senator Aimal Wali Khan has strongly responded to the latest press conference by Director General Inter-Services Public Relations Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry.
In a series of posts on X, Khan questioned who actually controls Pakistan’s governance system.
He also raised concerns about the renewed debate over creating new provinces and administrative units.
Khan asked whose interests would be served by the proposed changes. He also questioned who Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi was representing when he discussed the issue.
Naqvi had proposed the creation of new administrative units during a speech in Karachi on July 30. He argued that smaller units could improve governance and administrative performance.
Aimal Wali Khan linked those remarks to the DG ISPR briefing and questioned why the same subject was discussed by the military spokesperson.
New Provinces Debate Draws Political Criticism
Khan said the DG ISPR initially stated that he did not want to comment on the interior minister’s speech.
However, the military spokesperson later highlighted the need for new administrative units during the same briefing.
The ANP leader argued that this weakened the earlier disclaimer.
He said the comments raised wider questions about the role of different state institutions in political and administrative matters.
Khan also questioned which institution was actually directing national affairs.
He referred to the presence of serving and retired military officers in several civilian institutions.
According to Khan, political leaders are often blamed for national failures, while other powerful institutions avoid direct accountability.
His remarks reflected a wider political debate over civilian authority, institutional influence and responsibility for government decisions.
Khan Urges Governments to Reject Nominal Authority
Aimal Wali Khan warned the public against viewing the government and the wider power structure as separate entities.
He argued that both were operating within the same system.
Khan also referred to a controversial expression used during Mohsin Naqvi’s Karachi speech while discussing growing public anger.
He warned that those who actually control the system would face the consequences if public frustration continued to increase.
The ANP president called on federal and provincial governments to distance themselves from the current arrangement.
He claimed that elected governments were given only limited and symbolic authority.
Khan said those exercising real control should accept responsibility for both achievements and failures.
He argued that accountability should not be placed only on elected politicians and public office-holders.
No immediate official response was issued to Khan’s statements.
His comments are likely to intensify the ongoing debate over institutional authority, political accountability and the proposed creation of new administrative units in Pakistan.
