LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has launched the CM Punjab Wheat Incentive Program, which includes a scheme to distribute 1,000 free tractors to wheat farmers across the province.
As part of the initiative, 55-horsepower tractors will be provided at no cost to 1,000 farmers selected through a digital balloting process. The first tractor was awarded to Kausar Parveen, a female farmer from Bahawalnagar. CM Maryam Nawaz personally congratulated several winners, including Muhammad Iqbal from Jhang and Salman Ahmed from Mandi Bahauddin.
The program is part of the Punjab government’s broader strategy to support farmers and boost wheat production. Other ongoing agricultural initiatives include the Green Tractor Scheme, Kisan Card, and Super Seeder projects.
A total of 57,733 farmers with landholdings exceeding 12.5 acres applied for the free tractor scheme, with 21,496 found eligible for the final balloting. All selected farmers are expected to receive their tractors within three months.
Boosting Wheat Production in Punjab
Punjab has cultivated wheat on 560,000 acres this season, and the government expects the initiative to significantly enhance crop yields. Expressing optimism, CM Maryam Nawaz stated, “By the grace of Allah Almighty, we anticipate a bumper wheat crop. I extend my prayers for the prosperity of our hardworking farmers.”
This follows the launch of the CM Punjab Green Tractor Scheme in November last year, where 9,500 farmers were selected to receive a Rs. 1 million subsidy per tractor. The chief minister also inspected various models of green tractors as part of the initiative.
