Adiala Jail officials have strongly refuted recent claims made by Kasim Khan, son of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, regarding a supposed hepatitis outbreak in the prison. The prison authorities have labeled the accusations as entirely baseless, misleading, and potentially harmful.
In an official statement released on Saturday, Adiala Jail Superintendent Abdul Ghafoor Anjum clarified that no prisoner in the facility has been diagnosed with hepatitis. According to Anjum, all inmates are routinely screened for infectious diseases such as Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, and HIV as part of standard medical procedures.
The statement was issued in response to a recent post made by Kasim Khan on social media platform X, where he alleged that ten inmates had died due to hepatitis and voiced concern that his father, currently detained in Adiala Jail, might also be at risk of infection. These remarks sparked significant public interest and raised questions about the health conditions inside the prison.
Superintendent Anjum firmly rejected these claims, calling them not only inaccurate but also dangerous. “All prisoners are tested regularly,” he said. “If any individual is found to have contracted a viral illness, they are immediately isolated and given appropriate medical care. Our latest medical inspection found no cases of hepatitis among the inmate population.”
He went on to stress that disseminating false health-related information about prison conditions can incite unnecessary panic and confusion, both inside and outside the facility. “Such allegations serve only to spread fear and misinformation. The safety and wellbeing of every inmate, including high-profile detainees, is our top priority,” he added.
The superintendent reiterated that health protocols are strictly followed in the prison, and any viral outbreak would be met with immediate and transparent action. Medical staff remain on-site to ensure the ongoing health monitoring of inmates, and any signs of illness are promptly addressed.
This development comes amid heightened scrutiny of prison conditions and the treatment of political figures currently under detention. However, the prison authorities maintain that all inmates are treated equally under the law and according to established medical standards.
The denial from jail officials aims to counteract what they see as an attempt to create unwarranted fear about the health status of one of Pakistan’s most high-profile prisoners. As misinformation continues to circulate rapidly across social media, the prison administration has called for responsible communication, especially when it concerns public health and the wellbeing of incarcerated individuals.
