Karachi: The Federal Investigation Agency has identified additional officials from the National Database and Registration Authority who are allegedly involved in the issuance of Computerised National Identity Cards to Afghan nationals, as reported by news.
The FIA’s investigation is nearing completion, with responsible officials now identified. According to sources, Afghan citizens obtained Pakistani ID cards by paying bribes, often with the collusion of Pakistani families.
The investigation was launched following the arrest of Afghan national Majidullah, who attempted to acquire a Pakistani passport fraudulently. It was discovered that Majidullah had bribed individuals and posed as a family member to obtain a CNIC.
Statements from relevant NADRA officials have been recorded by the FIA, which is preparing to take action against the accused.
Sources indicate that more arrests are anticipated as the investigation progresses.
Earlier, the Ministry of Interior had instructed legal action against Afghan nationals apprehended in Saudi Arabia for possessing counterfeit Pakistani passports and ID cards.
According to FIA sources, in compliance with the Ministry’s directives, notices under Section 18 of the NADRA ordinance are being issued to 12,500 Afghan nationals. It was disclosed that 593 fake Pakistani ID cards were issued to Afghan nationals from Islamabad, with an additional 5,500 issued from Quetta and Peshawar.
