Pakistan has named fast-bowling all-rounder Abbas Afridi as captain for the upcoming Hong Kong Sixes tournament.
The Pakistan Cricket Board announced the squad on Friday morning. The six-a-side competition will be played from October 30 to November 1 at the Tin Kwong Road Recreation Ground in Hong Kong.
Pakistan will leave for Hong Kong on October 28. The team will compete against 11 other sides in the three-day event.
A total of 12 teams will participate in this year’s tournament. They have been divided into four pools, with three teams placed in each group.
Pakistan have been drawn in Pool C. The PCB has not yet announced the complete match schedule in the squad statement.
Abbas Afridi will lead a seven-member Pakistan squad.
The selected players are Abdul Samad, Ahmed Daniyal, Muhammad Irfan Khan, Khawaja Nafay, Muhammad Shahzad and Saad Masood, alongside captain Abbas Afridi.
Raza Kitchlew has been appointed team manager for the tournament.
The Hong Kong Sixes is known for its fast-paced format, aggressive batting and high-scoring matches. Teams feature only six players, which makes every over and every wicket important.
Pakistan will look to use a balanced combination of power hitters and versatile players in the competition.
Abbas Afridi’s leadership role gives him an opportunity to guide a young and attacking side on the international stage.
The tournament is expected to attract strong interest because of its short format and entertainment value.
Pakistan’s selection also reflects the PCB’s focus on giving emerging players exposure in competitive international events.
The team will now prepare for the tournament before departing for Hong Kong later this month.
