Punjab Assembly member and Punjab Women Protection Authority Chairperson Hina Parvez Butt has shared her thoughts on marriage and family relationships through the popular drama Aap Ki Izzat.
Taking to Instagram, Hina praised Ahsan Khan and Urwa Hocane for their performances as Tabish and Beena. She also used the drama’s storyline to discuss family dynamics, unresolved trauma, trust and reconciliation between couples.
The drama concluded recently with Tabish and Beena reuniting, although the ending divided viewers over whether their reconciliation adequately addressed the consequences of their troubled relationship.
Hina Parvez Butt Discusses Role of Mothers-in-Law
Hina began her commentary by discussing the relationship between mothers-in-law and newly married women. She said families should make a new bride feel accepted rather than making her adjustment period more difficult.
“As the saying goes, ‘Every mother in law was once a daughter-in-law herself.’ Therefore, first and foremost, mothers-in-law should accept a girl as a family member when she arrives home after marriage. They should not ruin that young girl’s peace of mind and should give her some time to adjust,” she said.
Her comments focused on the importance of creating a supportive family environment after marriage.
“Trauma” Should Not Be Passed to the Next Generation
Hina also highlighted the impact of unresolved trauma on family relationships. She argued that experiencing hardship does not mean a person should repeat the same behaviour with younger family members.
“Just because you have been through trauma, it doesn’t mean you have to pass it on to the next generation,” Hina remarked.
Her observation reflected one of the broader themes explored through the drama, including how family behaviour can influence relationships between spouses.
Hina Reflects on Trust and Forgiveness
The MPA also discussed the difficult process of rebuilding trust after serious marital conflicts.
Referring to Tabish and Beena’s relationship, she questioned whether people would extend to their spouses the same forgiveness and understanding they expect for themselves.
Hina noted that husbands should also reflect on their own actions when asking their wives to overlook painful experiences.
She acknowledged that rebuilding a marriage can be difficult. However, she said couples can make efforts to resolve conflicts and preserve their relationship.
Hina Praises Ahsan Khan and Urwa Hocane
In a written message accompanying her Instagram post, Hina praised Aap Ki Izzat and highlighted the performances of Ahsan Khan and Urwa Hocane. The drama is based on a novel by writer Umera Ahmed and explores marriage, family pressure, emotional conflict and reconciliation.
Hina said expecting a wife to simply forget painful experiences and accept her husband again can be extremely difficult.
At the same time, she encouraged couples to work through disagreements rather than immediately giving up on their relationships.
“Conflicts and disagreements are part of a husband-and-wife relationship,” she wrote.
Punjab Women Protection Authority and Mediation
Hina also connected the drama’s themes to her professional work at the Punjab Women Protection Authority. She explained that the authority facilitates reconciliation through mediation in appropriate cases.
“At the offices of the Punjab Women Protection Authority, we also try to facilitate reconciliation through mediation. Our effort is to prevent a family from breaking apart,” she stated.
The PWPA officially lists Hina Parvez Butt as its chairperson and identifies its work around women’s protection and related support services.
Aap Ki Izzat Finale Sparks Discussion
Aap Ki Izzat has generated discussion around forgiveness and reconciliation since its finale. The drama ended with Tabish and Beena finding their way back to each other. While some viewers welcomed the emotional reunion, others felt the resolution made forgiveness appear too straightforward.
Hina’s comments add another perspective to that discussion, focusing on communication, family acceptance, personal responsibility and the possibility of reconciliation.
