Bollywood star reportedly transforms physique to portray younger character in film centred on historic 1952 India-Pakistan Test series

MUMBAI: Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan has reportedly embarked on a significant weight-loss programme for his upcoming film Lalkaara, which will reunite him with acclaimed filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker after 25 years.

According to Filmfare, Khan has started an intensive physical transformation to convincingly portray a considerably younger character. The upcoming film reportedly revolves around the historic 1952 India-Pakistan Test cricket series and will combine sporting history with broader themes surrounding Partition, friendship and nationalism.

The project brings Khan and Gowariker together for the first time since their celebrated 2001 film Lagaan, which used cricket as the backdrop for a story set during British colonial rule in India.

Actor Takes On Another Demanding Transformation

Khan has previously undergone dramatic physical changes for his films. Most notably, he gained substantial weight for Dangal in 2016 to portray wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat during his later years before shedding the weight to play the character at a younger age.

Similarly, his reported Lalkaara transformation reflects the physical demands of his latest role. However, the filmmakers have not yet disclosed details about his target weight or preparation schedule.

Piyush Gupta and Neeraj Singh have reportedly written the film.

Casting Reports Surround Upcoming Cricket Drama

Meanwhile, reports have linked actor Sidhant Gupta with Lalkaara following speculation that Farhan Akhtar had withdrawn from an acting role.

However, Akhtar subsequently clarified that he had never formally joined the film’s cast. He explained that actors regularly discuss potential projects without eventually signing contracts.

Nevertheless, Akhtar remains connected with Lalkaara behind the scenes as a producer through Excel Entertainment.

The production has already attracted attention because of Khan and Gowariker’s reunion, while its focus on a landmark India-Pakistan cricket series could give the film significant historical and sporting appeal.
