President Donald Trump’s approval rating has fallen to 32%, the lowest recorded during his political career, according to a new Reuters/Ipsos poll.
The four-day survey found growing dissatisfaction with Trump’s handling of the cost of living and the ongoing war with Iran. His overall approval fell from 35% in the previous week’s poll.
Republican Support Also Declines
Support for Trump among Republicans fell to 73%, compared with 82% in the previous week.
Only 17% of respondents approved of his handling of the cost of living, which the poll identified as the leading issue for voters ahead of the November 3 midterm elections.
Among Republicans, 51% disapproved of Trump’s handling of living costs, while 44% approved.
The poll also found that 34% of Americans supported US strikes on Iran.
Iran War Raises Economic Concerns
The survey comes as the Iran conflict continues to affect energy markets and fuel prices.
Trump initially said the conflict would last only a few weeks. However, 82% of respondents said they expected the war to continue for an extended period.
Rising fuel costs have added to concerns about inflation and household expenses.
Trump’s approval on immigration remains stronger among Republicans, with 79% supporting his approach. Across all respondents, however, 36% approved while 55% disapproved.
His handling of crime received 35% approval, compared with 50% disapproval.
Democrats Lead in Midterm Voting Preference
The poll found registered voters preferred Democratic candidates over Republican candidates by 43% to 35% when asked about their intended vote in the midterm elections.
The eight-point difference was the largest Democratic lead recorded in Reuters/Ipsos polling this year. However, the survey reflects national voting preferences and does not capture the individual state and district contests that determine control of Congress.
The Reuters/Ipsos poll surveyed 1,277 US adults nationwide and had a margin of error of three percentage points.
