A deadly shooting in Erie, Pennsylvania, has left eight people dead, including seven relatives and a family friend. Authorities said a 45-year-old man allegedly killed the victims before apparently taking his own life on Saturday.
The victims included a five-year-old boy, a one-year-old girl and a woman who was eight months pregnant. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting, which unfolded at a residential property on Friday evening.
Police Respond to Shooting Reports in Erie
Police officers rushed to the scene on Friday evening after receiving reports of gunfire. Erie Police Chief Rick Lorah said officers discovered two women dead in the street upon arrival.
According to Lorah, video evidence showed the women arriving at the residence in apparent distress. They then attempted to contact neighbours and enter the house.
However, the gunman came out of the house, shot both women and returned inside, the police chief said.
Suspect Barricades Himself Inside Home
Following the shooting, the suspect barricaded himself inside the residence as police surrounded the building. Officers ordered him to come outside while they managed the unfolding situation.
Authorities later found the man inside the house with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, Lorah said. Police have not publicly established further details about the circumstances leading to the shooting.
Two Children and Pregnant Woman Among Victims
Police said the gunman and seven of the victims were related, while the eighth victim was a family friend. The victims included two children aged five and one.
The remaining victims were men and women between 19 and 51 years old. One of the women was eight months pregnant, adding to the devastating impact on the affected families.
Authorities have not provided further details about the relationships between each victim and the suspect.

Erie Mayor Daria Devlin acknowledged the community’s grief while addressing reporters on Saturday.
“Many people across our community are hurting today: the neighbors who witnessed what happened, the families and friends of those who were killed, the officers and first responders who answered these calls, and others struggling to make sense of something so terrible,” Erie Mayor Daria Devlin told reporters Saturday.
She also expressed support for those struggling to cope with the tragedy.
“We cannot undo what happened last night, and we cannot take away the grief that these families are carrying, but we can make sure that they don’t have to carry it alone,” she said.
