Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan has hinted at forthcoming significant announcements in the realm of solar energy projects, indicating the country’s pursuit of investment from Saudi Arabia across various sectors to bolster its economy.
During an interview with Al Arabiya English, he disclosed that a Pakistani delegation is currently in Riyadh to discuss potential investment opportunities in solar energy with ACWA POWER.
Sharif emphasized the potential for major announcements in solar energy projects, alongside opportunities in mines and minerals and the agricultural sector, underscoring Pakistan’s status as an agrarian economy.
He advocated for increased collaboration with Saudi Arabia to amplify agricultural production and praised the Saudi crown prince’s notable achievements in the information technology sector.
Regarding strategic partnerships with other Arab nations, Sharif expressed affirmation, highlighting Kuwait, Qatar, UAE, Turkey, and China as potential partners for fostering economic advancement. He credited Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s dynamism and visionary leadership for paving the way for such collaborations.
Addressing concerns about Pakistan’s ability to maintain relations with various countries, Sharif emphasized the government’s focus on economic progress despite acknowledging significant challenges at the macroeconomic level.
He pledged to implement substantial reforms and structural changes to address issues such as line losses, power generation, and revenue collection, emphasizing the necessity of focusing on reform agendas.
Sharif expressed gratitude for Saudi Arabia’s historical support to Pakistan and underscored the importance of technical assistance and collaboration to achieve national targets within specified timelines.
