DG ISPR Remarks
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has made a significant statement regarding the 2014 sit-in, expressing a willingness for an investigation under the condition of ensuring the safety and security of the investigating judges.
This response comes in the wake of a press conference held by the Director-General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Major General Babar Iftikhar, on Tuesday.
In their statement released on social media platform “X,” PTI conveyed their readiness to participate in a judicial inquiry into the 2014 sit-in and all related events.
However, they emphasized the crucial condition that the investigating judges must be guaranteed protection for their families and privacy, ensuring that they will not face threats such as kidnappings or surveillance through hidden cameras in their bedrooms.
The stance taken by PTI follows Major General Iftikhar’s announcement during the press conference, where he affirmed the military’s preparedness for a judicial commission to investigate the events of May 9th.
PTI further questioned the origin of the demand for a judicial commission, whether it stems from the institution itself or is merely adopted as a narrative to demonstrate “paternalistic affection” towards their creation, the PML-N.
In another instance, PTI criticized the DG ISPR for labeling them as part of miscreants, despite securing the most votes in the recent elections.
This critique highlights what PTI perceives as arrogance on the part of the military establishment, questioning the fairness and impartiality in their characterization of political entities.
