Former cricketer Whittall injured in attack by a leopard during trekking

Guy Whittall, the former Zimbabwean cricketer celebrated for his remarkable contributions to the nation’s cricketing legacy, faced a daunting ordeal when he came under attack by a leopard during a trek in the Humani region conservancy.

This seasoned all-rounder, known for his prowess on the cricket field, sustained severe injuries in the confrontation and underwent urgent surgery at Harare’s Milton Park Hospital.

Accompanied by his faithful companion, Chikara, Whittall embarked on the trek, only to encounter the perilous fangs of the leopard. Both Whittall and Chikara suffered injuries during the encounter, with the loyal canine bravely attempting to shield his owner from harm.

This incident adds another gripping chapter to Whittall’s extraordinary encounters with wildlife, echoing a chilling episode from 11 years prior when he stumbled upon an eight-foot Nile crocodile beneath his bed. Now, the former cricketer faces the aftermath of a vicious leopard attack, necessitating immediate medical attention.

Hannah Stooks-Whittall, Guy Whittall’s spouse, kept well-wishers informed about his condition through social media, expressing gratitude for the swift response of medical professionals and the flood of support from fans.

Despite the gravity of the situation, Stooks-Whittall highlighted the resilience and bravery exhibited by both her husband and their faithful canine companion.

Whittall’s cricketing journey boasts notable highlights, including a memorable century in 1995 that propelled Zimbabwe to their inaugural victory against Pakistan.

While his feats on the cricket pitch have etched an enduring legacy in Zimbabwean cricket, Whittall’s recent brush with wildlife underscores the capriciousness of nature and the fortitude necessary to navigate its trials.
