Iranian president arrives in Lahore, visits Iqbal’s mausoleum

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi embarked on a visit to Lahore on Tuesday, where his first stop was the revered Mazar-i-Iqbal. Following his engagements in Lahore, Raisi is scheduled to continue his journey to Karachi.

Upon his arrival at Lahore Airport, Raisi was warmly received by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, alongside Maryam Aurangzeb and Provincial Minister for Information and Culture Uzma Bukhari.

During his stay in Lahore, President Raisi took the opportunity to pay homage at the Mazar-i-Iqbal and offer prayers in reverence.

A ceremonial guard of honor was accorded to the visiting President at the shrine, a gesture symbolizing respect and honor.

Raisi’s itinerary in Lahore includes meetings with Punjab’s leadership and participation in a luncheon hosted by Governor Balighur Rehman.

The city of Lahore observed a public holiday on this occasion, resulting in the closure of several roads to facilitate security arrangements. Consequently, courts and educational institutions remained shuttered, with intermediate exams and practicals postponed. However, operations continued uninterrupted in departments affiliated with the Punjab Civil Secretariat.

Following his engagements in Lahore, President Raisi is slated to proceed to Karachi. In the port city, he plans to pay homage at the Mazar-e-Quaid, the final resting place of Pakistan’s founder, Muhammad Ali Jinnah. Additionally, he is scheduled to hold meetings with officials. Notably, Raisi will be bestowed with an honorary doctorate by Karachi University, underscoring the significance of his visit.

Overall, President Raisi’s visit underscores the importance of bilateral relations between Iran and Pakistan, as well as the cultural and historical ties shared between the two nations.
