The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee has confirmed the sighting of the Shawwal moon in the country, signifying that Eid ul Fitr will commence tomorrow (Wednesday).
The announcement was made by Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, chairman of the top moon sighting body, following a meeting held in Islamabad.
During a press conference in Islamabad on Tuesday, the committee chief stated that the decision was based on testimonies received from various parts of the country.
Karachi, Lahore, and Quetta did not submit testimonies for the Shawwal moon sighting, as reported by the respective zonal committees prior to the official announcement by the central committee.
However, the central moon sighting committee revealed that it received over 20 testimonies from different regions, including Sheikhupura.
In addition to members of the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, officials from the meteorology department, Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco), and the Ministry of Science and Technology also attended the central moon sighting committee meeting.
India and Bangladesh are set to celebrate Eid ul Fitr on Thursday, as the Shawwal moon was not sighted in both countries. The decision was confirmed by the Imams of Delhi’s Jama Masjid and Fatehpuri mosque, as reported by Indian media. Similarly, Bangladesh’s National Moon Sighting Committee announced Thursday as the Eid celebration day.
On the other hand, Eid-ul-Fitr will be observed tomorrow in Saudi Arabia, Australia, the United Kingdom (UK), and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) since the Shawwal moon sighting did not occur in these countries.
This signifies the completion of the holy month of Ramadan after a full 30 days, with Tuesday marking its final day — the most sacred month in the Muslim calendar.
