In the Sanghar district of Sindh, a heartbreaking incident unfolded as five children belonging to a single family tragically lost their lives after drinking contaminated water from a borewell.
The Sanghar Deputy Commissioner released a statement detailing the devastating events. The five children, ranging in age from four to eight years old, fell victim to poisoning after drinking water from a local hand pump in Sanghar.
Upon exhibiting symptoms of vomiting, fever, and diarrhea, the children were swiftly taken to the hospital. Despite the best efforts of medical personnel, their conditions deteriorated rapidly, and they succumbed to the effects of the poisoning during the course of treatment.
The young victims have been identified as eight-year-old Mureed Bhatti, three-year-old Mumtaz, five-year-old Rashid Ali, four-year-old Sania, and four-year-old Zamira, casting a pall of grief over the community.
In response to the tragic incident, the deputy commissioner, accompanied by health authorities, promptly visited the village to assess the situation. Tests conducted on the water source revealed the presence of toxic substances, prompting immediate action.
As a precautionary measure, the district health officer took decisive steps to seal the hand pump located on agricultural land, aiming to prevent further harm and protect the health of residents.
