The inaugural Ramadan event at the recently constructed BAPS Hindu Mandir in Abu Dhabi was a remarkable occasion that brought together individuals from various religious and cultural backgrounds. Named “Omsiyyat,” this cultural event embraced the spirit of the holy month, offering an evening of spiritual reflection, conversation, and community building.
Following the event, attendees enjoyed suhoor prepared by volunteers of the first traditional Hindu stone temple in the area, located in Abu Mureikha, off the Abu Dhabi-Dubai expressway.
The historic interfaith gathering saw the presence of Emirati ministers, a rabbi, a vicar, representatives of the Sikh and Bohra communities, heads of government departments, ambassadors, diplomats, community leaders, artists, business owners, and foreign visitors, against the backdrop of the magnificent architectural marvel.
Key figures including the Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, the Minister of State for Foreign Trade, Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, and the Chairman of the Department of Community Development, Dr. Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili, were among those present, emphasizing the unique bond between India and the UAE.
Sheikh Nahyan praised the BAPS Sanstha for organizing an interfaith event during the holy month, underscoring the significance of peace, tolerance, human fraternity, and interfaith harmony in the UAE.
Pujya Swami Brahmaviharidas, the head of the BAPS Sanstha temple project, expressed gratitude to UAE ministers and leaders for their support and love, highlighting the importance of self-discipline, self-introspection, gratitude, and generosity during Ramadan.
During the event, Swami Brahmaviharidas shared a moral story promoting peace, love, and friendship, fostering lively conversations among participants and promoting a deeper understanding and appreciation of the UAE’s diverse environment.
The gathering also featured customary cultural shows, with BAPS volunteers serving delectable pure vegetarian cuisine to guests, enhancing the sense of communal celebration and unity.
