In Karachi, the recent uproar surrounding viral videos depicting Asher, the son of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) East Azfar Mahesar, engaging in reckless aerial firing has prompted Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hasan Lanjar to initiate a thorough investigation.
The footage, widely circulated on social media platforms, portrays Asher brazenly brandishing an assortment of firearms while indiscriminately discharging rounds in various locales, including from the confines of a moving vehicle.
In response to public outcry, Lanjar has directed the Karachi police to conduct a comprehensive forensic analysis of the videos and take decisive action against DIG Mahesar should he be found complicit in any wrongdoing. Consequently, the Karachi police swiftly filed a formal complaint with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), signaling a commitment to probe the matter exhaustively.
While authorities acknowledge the possibility of some videos being outdated or manipulated, they have nonetheless launched a rigorous inquiry into the incidents captured. Notably, the aerial firing incidents during New Year’s Eve celebrations in Karachi resulted in multiple injuries across different parts of the city.
Prior to these regrettable events, Karachi police had issued stern warnings against such hazardous conduct, cautioning that individuals partaking in aerial firing would face severe charges, including those related to terrorism.
Despite these admonitions, several individuals, including a seven-year-old child in Bahadurabad, fell victim to stray bullets during separate incidents occurring at Five Star Chowrangi, Seaview, Liaquat Abad, and North Nazimabad.
The escalation of such incidents underscores the pressing need for stricter enforcement measures to deter such dangerous behavior, ensuring the safety and well-being of all citizens during celebratory occasions.
