In a heart-wrenching incident, five Chinese citizens tragically lost their lives when a suicide bomber targeted their convoy in northwest Pakistan, as disclosed by a senior police official on Tuesday.
The horrific assault took place as a suicide bomber, driving a vehicle packed with explosives, purposefully targeted the convoy of Chinese engineers en route from Islamabad to their base in Dasu, situated within the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, as described by Mohammad Ali Gandapur, the regional police chief.
Dasu, recognized for its pivotal dam project, has been marred by violence in the past. A grim incident in 2021 saw a bus explosion claiming the lives of 13 individuals, including nine Chinese nationals.
Promptly responding to the scene, local authorities initiated relief efforts, with Gandapur assuring the safety of the remaining individuals within the convoy.
Meanwhile, in a display of valorous defense at PNS Siddique in Turbat on Monday, a sepoy from the Frontier Corps valiantly sacrificed his life as security forces successfully thwarted an attack. All four terrorists involved in the assault were swiftly neutralized.
Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported, “On the night of March 25/26, 2024, terrorists attempted to launch an attack on Pakistan Naval Base, PNS Siddique in Turbat. However, due to the prompt and effective response by the troops, the safety and security of personnel and assets were ensured.”
“Security forces in the vicinity promptly mobilized to support the naval troops. The concerted and efficient response by the armed forces led to the elimination of all four terrorists in the ensuing joint clearance operation,” ISPR elaborated.
Tragically, during the defense, 24-year-old Sepoy Noman Fareed, a member of the FC, bravely sacrificed his life.
ISPR reiterated the commitment of the Pakistan Armed Forces to eradicate terrorism from the country unequivocally.
PNS Siddique, located in Turbat, Southern Balochistan, holds significance as one of the largest naval air stations in Pakistan.
Furthermore, in a separate intelligence-based operation conducted in Dera Ismail Khan on Tuesday, security forces achieved success by neutralizing four terrorists after a fierce exchange of fire, according to ISPR.
The terrorists, identified as Mustafa, Qismat Ullah, and Islam Ud Din, were found to be involved in various terrorist activities against security forces and innocent civilians. Substantial amounts of weapons, ammunition, and explosives were recovered from the slain terrorists.
Moreover, a comprehensive clearance operation was conducted in the area to root out any other terrorists who might be hiding, demonstrating the unwavering commitment of security forces to maintain peace and security in the region.
